How to recognise this generation
- Lower and wider than the CX-5 with thick black cladding on the wheel arches and lower body
- Wide, low grille and slim headlights; no fog lamps
- Two front bumper patterns: GS-L / S Select / S Preferred / S Premium / S Meridian / Kuro and the Hybrid GS-L / Preferred / Premium, or the turbo fascia on GT / Turbo / Turbo Premium Plus / Meridian / Turbo Meridian and the Hybrid GT / Premium Plus
- Hood, fenders, doors, sills, roof, hatch and rear bumper are shared by every trim including Meridian Edition and the Hybrid
- Front parking sensors (4) on some cars: choose the sensor option on bumper kits
- Roof: solid, or the panoramic moonroof (Mazda: the CX-50's opening is panoramic) on GT and up; no single-opening moonroof was offered: choose the roof type on roof and full-body kits
- Built only in Huntsville, Alabama for North America; a Changan Mazda version is sold in China
